Choosing the right PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) college is a crucial decision that can shape your career and open doors to incredible opportunities. Given the large number of institutes offering PGDM programs, selecting the right one might seem like a daunting task.

However, with the proper knowledge and criteria, you will be able to make a good decision that aligns with your career goals. Here are some essential tips to help you choose the best PGDM college.

Accreditation and Affiliation

When choosing a PGDM college, the first thing to consider is its accreditation and affiliation. These factors are crucial as they ensure the institution maintains high standards in terms of curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, and placements. Look for colleges accredited by bodies like AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) or those affiliated with reputed universities. Accreditation adds credibility to your degree and enhances your job prospects, providing a sense of security and confidence in your choice.

Additionally, affiliation with reputed universities offers a structured academic framework, allowing access to a wider network of resources and opportunities. This can greatly impact your educational experience and open doors to better career prospects. So before taking admission in PGDM 2024 course, consider

Affiliated colleges often provide broader resources and academic support.

Look for colleges accredited by regulatory bodies like AICTE.

Ensure the institution is affiliated with a reputed university.

Accreditation impacts curriculum quality, faculty standards, and placement opportunities.

Ranking and Reputation

Consider the reputation of a PGDM college, as it reflects its quality. Research the ranking and reputation of the institute you’re interested in.

Educational publications and websites release annual rankings of business schools based on criteria such as faculty, placements, infrastructure, and student satisfaction. While rankings are important, it’s also crucial not to rely solely on them. Instead, consider speaking to alumni or current students to understand their experiences and perceptions.

Curriculum and Specializations

The curriculum is one of the most important aspects of a PGDM or any other program. Different colleges may offer distinct specializations, such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Business Analytics, or Operations. Look for colleges that provide a comprehensive curriculum designed to meet the needs of today’s industry. The best PGDM colleges will offer a curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, enabling students to understand management concepts holistically. Ensure the college provides up-to-date courses relevant to current industry demands.

Faculty Quality

When considering a college, it’s important to remember that the faculty is not just a group of educators, but a team of mentors who play a pivotal role in shaping your education and learning experience.

The best PGDM colleges boast experienced faculty members with a blend of academic expertise and industry experience. They are not just educators, but mentors who play a pivotal role in shaping your education and learning experience. Their insights into real-world business scenarios can add immense value to your education, inspiring and motivating you to excel.

Before deciding on a college, take the time to learn more about the faculty by browsing the college website, looking at their academic qualifications, or even attending demo classes or webinars, if available.

Industry Exposure and Internship Opportunities

Management education is not just about theoretical knowledge but also about practical industry exposure. When choosing the best PGDM college, ensure that the college provides ample opportunities for internships, live projects, and industrial visits. Like FIIB, publishes student portfolios listing their experience, expertise for their carrier exposure.

These opportunities bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-life business scenarios, preparing students for the corporate world. Internships also provide a platform for students to network, build industry contacts, and gain hands-on experience that employers highly value.

Placement Record

A college’s placement record is a strong indicator of the value that employers place on its graduates. When researching PGDM colleges, pay close attention to their placement statistics, including the average package, the highest package, and the list of recruiting companies.

The best PGDM colleges typically have a dedicated placement cell that works closely with students to help them develop soft skills, prepare for interviews, and connect with leading companies. A strong placement record ensures you access attractive job opportunities upon completing your program.

Infrastructure and Facilities

A good learning environment is essential for any student pursuing a PGDM program. Look for colleges that provide well-equipped classrooms, libraries, labs, and other facilities. Besides academics, the college should also provide amenities for extracurricular activities, such as sports, clubs, or cultural events.

When choosing a PGDM college, it’s important to consider the overall college experience. A good learning environment is essential, but so are amenities for extracurricular activities, such as sports, clubs, or cultural events. A well-rounded college experience helps in developing skills beyond the classroom, which can be extremely beneficial in the corporate world. The best PGDM colleges focus on creating an enriching environment that fosters learning, creativity, and collaboration.

Location

The location of the college can have a big impact on your overall experience and future opportunities. Being in a metro area like Mumbai, Delhi, or Bengaluru can give you more chances to connect with professionals and build a strong network than colleges in smaller towns.

Colleges in metro cities offer better networking and internship opportunities.

Consider the cost of living, including accommodation, food, and transportation.

Ensure the location is safe and convenient for your needs.

However, it’s also important to consider practical factors such as living costs, safety, and convenience. Make sure that the location you choose is not only good for career opportunities but also fits your budget and lifestyle.

Alumni Network

A strong alumni network can be a valuable resource throughout your career. The alumni of a PGDM college can help with mentoring, career guidance, and networking. Alumni success stories are also a testament to the quality of the education provided by the institution. Before finalizing your choice, check if the college has an active alum association and whether alums are placed in reputed organizations. A well-connected alumni network can open doors to opportunities and help you grow in your career, making you feel connected and supported.

Student Support and Extracurricular Activities

The availability of student support services is an important factor when choosing the best PGDM college. This includes access to career counseling, mentorship programs, and other academic support initiatives. Additionally, a good PGDM college should provide ample opportunities for extracurricular activities.

Participating in clubs, competitions, and events helps students develop holistically, enabling them to build leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Consider colleges offering a vibrant campus life with opportunities to engage in academic and extracurricular activities.

Fee Structure and ROI

Pursuing a PGDM can be a significant financial investment, so considering the fee structure and the return on investment (ROI) must be considered while choosing a college. Compare the tuition fees of different colleges and evaluate them against the facilities, infrastructure, faculty, and placement opportunities provided. Fee, Scholarships and financial aid can also make a difference in your decision-making process. Look for colleges that offer financial support options and ensure that the quality of education justifies the costs.

Corporate Tie-Ups and Industry Collaborations

Corporate tie-ups and industry collaborations are a big part of what makes a PGDM program valuable. Colleges that partner with well-known companies can provide students with internships, placements, guest lectures, and real-world projects. These opportunities help students put classroom knowledge into practice and prepare them for real business situations. Industry partnerships also keep the curriculum up-to-date, so students learn skills that are relevant and in demand.

These collaborations also play an important role in placements. Colleges that have strong industry connections often see more companies coming to recruit their students. This makes it easier for graduates to find good jobs after completing their program. Besides placements, students get to network with industry professionals during seminars, workshops, and guest lectures, which can be a huge help when starting a career.

Global Exposure

Global exposure can provide a significant advantage in the job market in today’s interconnected world. Some of the best PGDM colleges offer international student exchange programs, study tours, or collaborations with international universities. Such programs help students understand global business practices, gain exposure to different cultures, and develop a broader perspective on management. If you have aspirations of working abroad or in a multinational company, look for colleges that offer opportunities for global exposure.

Additionally, these opportunities allows a student to build an international network, which can be highly beneficial in his/her careers. Exposure to different cultural environments helps understand diverse consumer behaviors, global economic policies, and international business strategies, crucial skills for aspiring global managers.

Key Points to Consider for Global Exposure:

Assess the possibility of gaining international certifications as part of the curriculum

Look for colleges offering exchange programs with renowned international universities.

Consider institutions that provide study tours to global business hubs.

Evaluate opportunities for collaborations with multinational companies.

Check for programs that include international guest lectures or workshops.

Campus Culture and Peer Group

The campus culture and peer group are vital to your learning experience. The best PGDM colleges foster an environment that encourages diversity, teamwork, innovation, and healthy competition. A diverse peer group brings different perspectives, enriching classroom discussions and enabling you to learn from each other. Consider visiting the campus to get a feel for the environment. You can also interact with current students to get insights into campus culture and their overall experience.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the best PGDM college is a significant decision that requires careful consideration of various factors, including accreditation, faculty, placements, infrastructure, industry exposure, and overall campus culture. Your college choice will influence your learning experience, skill development, and career prospects, so it is important to do thorough research and make an informed decision.

Take your time to evaluate different options, speak with current students or alumni, and visit the campus for a firsthand experience. With the right PGDM college, you can lay a strong foundation for a successful career in management and achieve your professional goals.

गुरु ब्रह्मा गुरु विष्णु, गुरु देवो महेश्वरः। गुरु साक्षात् परब्रह्म, तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः॥

In a country like India, where education and knowledge are revered, Teacher’s Day holds a special place in our hearts. Every year on September 5th, India celebrates Teacher’s Day—a day dedicated to honoring the educators who have a profound impact on shaping the minds and futures of countless students. This day is not merely a day of celebration but a significant event that is deeply rooted in the legacy of one of India’s most respected scholars, educators, and leaders, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Why September 5th?

The choice of September 5th as Teacher’s Day is not arbitrary. It marks the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a towering figure in the world of education and philosophy, born in 1888. Dr. Radhakrishnan’s contributions to education were so impactful that when he became the second President of India in 1962, his students and friends proposed celebrating his birthday as a special occasion. However, in his characteristic humility, Dr. Radhakrishnan suggested that rather than celebrating his birthday, the day should be observed as Teacher’s Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable role of teachers in shaping society.

This suggestion reflected Dr. Radhakrishnan’s deep respect for the teaching profession. He believed that teachers are the pillars of society, and their work in educating the youth is fundamental to a nation’s progress. Thus, September 5th was chosen as a day to honor all teachers, acknowledging their dedication, hard work, and the significant impact they have on the lives of their students.

Who Was Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan?

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s life is a testament to the power of education and the influence of great teachers. Born in a small town in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan’s journey to becoming one of the most respected thinkers of his time is truly inspirational. Despite coming from a humble background, he excelled in academics, eventually earning a scholarship to study at the prestigious Madras Christian College. His exceptional intellect and deep understanding of philosophy soon became evident, and he went on to serve as a professor at some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, including the University of Mysore and Oxford University.

Dr. Radhakrishnan was not just a teacher; he was a philosopher who brought Indian philosophy to the global stage. His works on Indian philosophy, particularly his interpretations of Vedanta, earned him international acclaim. He was a strong advocate for the idea that Indian philosophy had much to offer to the world, and he played a crucial role in introducing Indian thought to the Western academic world. His contributions to the field of philosophy were recognized globally, and he was invited to lecture at numerous universities around the world.

Despite his global recognition, Dr. Radhakrishnan always considered himself first and foremost a teacher. He believed that teaching was not just about imparting knowledge but about shaping the character and values of students. For him, teaching was a noble mission, a way to contribute to society’s development by nurturing the youth’s minds. He was known for his deep commitment to his students, and his ability to inspire them to think critically and explore the world of ideas.

Dr. Radhakrishnan’s influence extended beyond the classroom. He was a statesman who served as the Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962 and later as the President of India from 1962 to 1967. Even in these high offices, he continued to emphasize the importance of education and the role of teachers in society. He used his position to advocate for better educational opportunities for all and to promote the values of education, knowledge, and wisdom.

The Importance of Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day is much more than a day of appreciation; it is a day that reminds us of the critical role that educators play in our lives. Teachers are the architects of society, responsible for molding young minds and shaping the nation’s future. They do more than teach academic subjects—they inspire, guide, and mentor students, helping them to develop into well-rounded individuals.

In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving world, the role of teachers is more important than ever. The challenges of the 21st century, such as rapid technological advancements, globalization, and the need for sustainable development, require a new generation of thinkers and leaders who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate this complex world. Teachers are at the forefront of this mission, preparing students to meet these challenges and to contribute positively to society.

Teacher’s Day is an opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude to the teachers who have made a difference in our lives. It is a day to recognize their hard work, dedication, and the sacrifices they make to ensure that their students receive the best possible education. It is also a day to reflect on the importance of education and to reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering teachers in their vital roles.

My Experience at FIIB

As I reflect on the significance of Teacher’s Day, I am reminded of the profound impact that the faculty at FIIB has had on my life. Although I have only been at FIIB for a couple of months, the influence of the professors here has been nothing short of transformative. From the very beginning, the faculty at FIIB have been more than just educators—they have been mentors, guiding me through the complexities of academic subjects and encouraging me to develop my management skills.

The learning experience at FIIB has been intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. The professors here are deeply committed to their students, and they go above and beyond to ensure that we are not only learning but also growing as individuals. Their teaching methods are innovative and engaging, making even the most complex subjects accessible and interesting. But their influence extends beyond the classroom. They encourage us to participate in extracurricular activities, to engage in critical thinking, and to apply what we learn in real-world situations.

In just two months, I have learned so much at FIIB, not only in terms of academic knowledge but also in terms of personal and professional development. The exposure I have received here is invaluable, and I am excited about the plethora of opportunities that lie ahead in my MBA journey. The faculty at FIIB have played a crucial role in shaping my experience here, and I am deeply grateful for their guidance and support.

As I look to the future, I am confident that the lessons I have learned at FIIB will continue to shape my path. The influence of great teachers like those at FIIB is something that stays with you for a lifetime. They have the power to inspire, to challenge, and to push you to achieve your best. On this Teacher’s Day, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers who have made a difference in my life, especially those at FIIB who have been instrumental in my growth and development.

Conclusion

Teacher’s Day is a celebration of the educators who dedicate their lives to shaping the future of their students. It is a day to honor the legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who believed that teaching was the noblest of all professions. As we celebrate Teacher’s Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the importance of education and the role of teachers in our lives. Let us express our gratitude to the teachers who have inspired us, challenged us, and guided us. And let us commit to supporting and empowering teachers so that they can continue to make a difference in the lives of future generations.

Happy Teacher’s Day!

His FIIB Journey

“Studying at FIIB, I knew that it was going to be an intellectually rigorous avenue that would lead me to my dreams for international businesses. I was excited to come to FIIB for many reasons, one of which was the sense of independence I gained, the control over how, when, and where I did what I wanted to do (except lectures, of course). Balance between my projects, assignments, and exams has been the most challenging part of my studies. As a result, I was often exhausted, but making weekly and monthly goals instead of daily ones helped me stay on track. As a member of the FIIB Alumni Committee for many years, it has been a truly rewarding experience. Overall, the journey at FIIB at that time was not easy, but I am incredibly grateful for the wonderful friends I made and the experiences I had.”

Amit on His Leadership Style

“As the Chinese proverb goes, ‘the wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water molds itself to the pitcher’. Over the years, my leadership style has evolved, primarily agile and democratic, which better enables me to adapt to the changing business environment. By using this style, I was able to build trust and promote teamwork among my employees. Moreover, now I coach students and juniors in Ireland & India and unlock their potential. So, this new coaching style helps me to connect their hearts and open doors for them. I believe that everyone has the power within themselves and as a coach, I give them a little direction to help them tap into their ability to achieve their full potential.”

Impact of PGDM on His Career Success

“FIIB Founder R K Sir was a great entrepreneur and he believed that ‘The real purpose of education is to transform lives.’ Now I realize and believe that is true. Many people believe that if you get paid well and have a career that others dream of, you will become happy, fulfilled, and certainly successful. To me, career success is not just about money and companies or titles, but also about contributing to society and building networks to help one another. I believe your network is your net worth. Networking through FIIBians was the most rewarding part of my studies. I have been connected with my professors, seniors, juniors, and classmates. After completing the PGDM course at FIIB, I pursued further study at NIFT, Delhi in International Fashion Retail Management. My career path led me to work with retailers in the USA, EMEA, and APAC. Therefore, I am happy, fulfilled, and delighted with my career choice, which has enabled me to coach students and freshmen, as well as contribute to society.”

His Biggest Learnings from the Corporates

“Some of the learning that helped me to move ahead is #NeverStopLearning as I moved my career from retail business management to retail and e-commerce technology. In addition, break the rules for the right reasons and solve the problems that matter most to you. I was open to a new career shift, so I chose to pursue a Master’s in Retail & E-commerce from Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) Ireland in 2018. I was awarded the gold medal for my thesis and master’s which helped me validate my assumptions and focus on creating value. All in all, the lesson is to find confidence in who you are. Invest time in building relationships and empowering others with your learnings.”

Job Role as a Digital Product Manager

“Currently, I work with global brands and retailers in the product management role where I manage the entire lifecycle of a digital product, from inception to launch, and the overall vision of the product for a successful launch. I am passionate about my roles as it helps me to leverage the potential of new technologies for retailers’ growing business and employment across countries. Moreover, I can use my range of soft and hard skills from the market, customer research, product management, retail & e-commerce business knowledge for IT product solutions and translating business needs into new products and opportunities.”

A Message for the FIIB Community

“I take this opportunity to request the entire FIIB family, to keep this valued association strong and steadfast, to help elevate the quality of FIIB academic programs. I believe that this will go a long way in ensuring constant improvements to the FIIB institution – our Alma Mater – and culminate in exemplary standards of education services to our present and past student community.

I am indeed happy to inform you that I am building the ‘FIIB Alumni International Network’ across the US, EUROPE, and UAE – to build a vibrant global alumni network, maintain endless relationships, and discover invaluable global alumni potential. In addition, we have launched an Alumni Support Group in 2020 to provide emergency medical support, donations, and job referrals. FIIB management is therefore requested to support these initiatives. I take this opportunity to thank all of you once again from the depth of my heart. I look forward to continuing my involvement in the future as we strive together toward a new zenith of achievements for the FIIB family.”

My name is Shiv Sharma, and I’m a student here at FIIB. I’m originally from New Delhi, and after graduating with a BA from Delhi University, I set out to carve my path in the world of business. My background lies in Digital Marketing and HR. For several years, I honed my skills in the HR department at DLF Limited, but I hit a roadblock when I realized that I needed an MBA in my career.

The Importance of an MBA

I’ve always had high aspirations for my career, but the lack of an MBA meant I wasn’t considered for specific opportunities. I struggled to climb the corporate ladder, constantly feeling like I was missing out because I didn’t have that MBA tag. It was tough seeing my colleagues getting ahead while I felt stuck. The sting of company rejection became a frequent reality. This experience underscored a crucial truth—an MBA wasn’t just a ‘maybe’ anymore; it was the key to unlocking the doors to top positions.

Finding the Perfect Fit and Why FIIB?

Coming from a middle-class family, formal education held immense value. The search for the ideal MBA program began. That’s when I stumbled upon FIIB, a place that felt like home from the moment I set foot on campus. With its affordable tuition, stellar placement record, and emphasis on practical learning, FIIB was exactly what I was looking for. Through LinkedIn, I connected with current students and alumni, gaining invaluable insights into the true essence of the FIIB experience. The vibrant campus culture, brimming with energy and constant activity, further solidified my decision.

Experience at FIIB: Energy, Opportunity, and Growth

From day one, FIIB radiated positive energy. Something was always happening, and I knew I had found my tribe. I was elected as the Employability Representative for my batch. This role thrust me into the heart of the Placement Cell and Learning and Development department, where I actively contributed to enhancing student employability. I interacted with recruiters, organized online business sessions with guest speakers, and hosted author talks – all facilitated through the power of LinkedIn. FIIB not only nurtured my existing passion for networking but also provided the platform to improve my skills.

Growth, Networking & ITC

One of the most valuable lessons I learned at FIIB was the importance of networking. With LinkedIn and a proactive mindset, I contacted industry professionals, recruiters, and alumni, building a key professional network. This networking opened doors for me, landing an internship at ITC Limited Foods Division. I truly advocate for spending quality time on platforms like LinkedIn, to strategically connect with recruiters and professionals in desired fields. My own experience is proof of its effectiveness – within a few months of active networking, I built a database of over 400 valuable email contacts. But it’s not just about connections – crafting compelling messages is equally crucial. Mastering the art of communication, along with the strong interpersonal skills and soft skills that I gained from FIIB, is the key to transforming connections into tangible opportunities.

My journey at FIIB wasn’t just about personal success but about lifting others along the way. I noticed that many of my classmates weren’t leveraging LinkedIn to its full potential, so I made it my mission to share my strategies with them. I hope to help them unlock their paths to success by encouraging them to connect with recruiters and industry experts.

The Road Ahead: Dreams, Goals, and Beyond

As I look to the future, I see endless possibilities. My ultimate goal is to become a consultant, helping businesses navigate challenges and thrive. FIIB hasn’t just equipped me with the necessary knowledge but also provided the platform to develop essential skills like effective communication and strategic thinking. The internship I secured at ITC Limited’s Foods Division in their Strategy and Growth team directly results from the opportunities and guidance provided by FIIB. This is just the beginning of my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful to FIIB for participating in it.

The FIIB Faculty Spotlight series aims to highlight the dedicated faculty members who contribute to the success of FIIB MBA program. These educators bring their academic expertise, extensive research backgrounds, and practical business experience to enrich the learning environment for students. This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Prof. Snigdha, a passionate faculty member specializing in HR & OB at FIIB.

A Trainer, Researcher and Academician with over 15 years of experience, she has been consistently involved in training HR professionals, academicians and students to enhance their skills in leveraging technology in the field of HR. An Inclusion specialist, she is known for contributing in helping organizations foster inclusive cultures by understanding unconscious bias, and build a diverse and inclusive workplace. Her dedication to integrating real-world applications into her teaching makes her an invaluable asset to the FIIB community.

Q: How did you get started in your current field and where did you attend for your Masters before coming to FIIB?

A: My journey began with a passion for teaching, guiding, and mentoring students, driven by the “Never Stop Learning” philosophy. As an enthusiastic HR Analyst, I was keen to help organizations and individuals leverage HR Metrics for data-driven decision-making. Pursuing a people analytics course at IIM Rohtak equipped me with frameworks, models, and practical exercises that enhance participant learning and strategic HR insights.

I successfully cleared the UGC Net exam in one attempt, securing a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), which further fueled my career aspirations. In addition, through my research journey, I have embraced a role focused on creating positive change and fostering inclusive cultures by addressing unconscious biases prevalent in workplaces. This journey has continuously challenged me to innovate and redefine my impact.

Q: Why didn’t you go for a full-time PhD from a public university?

A: I always wanted to pursue a PhD alongside my job, which led me to explore part-time options. Before joining the EFPM program at FIIB, I was associated with a renowned Central University for my PhD. However, the EFPM program at FIIB offered rigorous research opportunities and extensive learning, which justified my decision to join. My research area focuses on persons with disabilities in organizations, aligning with FIIB’s mission and contributing significantly to companies and government policies.

Q: What modules do you teach, and how do you ensure they are relevant to real-world applications?

A: I teach People Analytics, Digital HR Transformation, and Organizational Behavior. These courses are crucial in today’s data-driven job market. I emphasize data sensibility and the application of business analytics in HR to prepare students for their future careers. The excitement among students about these courses is palpable, as they break the stereotype that HR is purely theoretical.

Q: What is your take on the impact of AI and emerging technologies on the teaching profession?

A: While AI and online resources have undoubtedly revolutionized the accessibility and dissemination of information, they cannot replace the unique and irreplaceable role of teachers in fostering student engagement and achieving meaningful learning outcomes. Teachers bring empathy, mentorship, and the ability to inspire and motivate students, which are aspects that technology cannot replicate.

The fundamental interaction between faculty and students, characterized by real-time feedback, emotional support, and the nurturing of critical thinking skills, remains essential. While AI can enhance the educational experience, the core value of human educators in shaping and guiding students’ intellectual and personal growth is irreplaceable.

Q. In today’s business landscape, why is responsible management such a crucial area of focus for MBA students, and as the Center Chair for FIIB’s Center for Responsible Management, how do you equip students to become ethical and socially conscious business leaders?

A: In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, responsible management is more crucial than ever. MBA students must understand that their decisions can significantly impact society, the environment, and the economy. Being equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate ethical dilemmas, promote sustainability, and foster inclusive growth is essential for shaping future business leaders who are not only successful but also socially conscious.

At FIIB’s Center for Responsible Management, we aim to contribute to and facilitate organizations in strengthening their practices toward ethical and sustainable development. Our goal is to support organizations in advancing responsible management while becoming socially relevant. We provide an up-to-date compendium of responsible management learning, supporting research and practices in this area.

Our initiatives include the SDG Dashboard in collaboration with the Haub School of Business, which tracks progress on Sustainable Development Goals to ensure alignment with global standards. Annual events like the Responsibility Summit, Purple Bharat Utsav, and Diwali Mela in partnership with the Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association (IDEA) serve as platforms for discussing the latest trends and challenges in responsible management.

Furthermore, our student-led initiatives, such as Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), engage students in rural development projects to foster a sense of social responsibility. Another initiative, FIIB GirlUp, empowers young women to take on leadership roles and advocate for gender equality. In addition, our Social Responsibility Committee encourages students to participate in community service and socially responsible projects. Through these diverse initiatives, we ensure our students are well-equipped to become ethical and socially conscious business leaders.

Q: How do you manage work-life balance as a faculty member and a mother?

A: Managing work-life balance as a faculty member and a mother is undoubtedly challenging, but FIIB’s supportive environment and policies make it more manageable. The institution understands the importance of flexibility and provides various measures to help faculty members balance their professional and personal responsibilities.

For instance, FIIB offers unplugged weekends and mandatory breaks during winters and summers, allowing faculty to recharge and spend quality time with their families. The supportive culture at FIIB, combined with effective time management and a clear understanding of priorities, enables me to fulfill my roles as an educator and a mother successfully. This balance is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and ensuring that I can give my best in both areas of my life.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to your younger self and to the younger generation today?

A: If I could advise my younger self, it would be to join FIIB earlier. The enriching experiences and opportunities here have been invaluable, and starting sooner would have allowed me to benefit even more. For the younger generation, my advice is to maintain focus and work diligently towards your goals. I often see a lack of focus among young people today, which can be a significant barrier to success. If you stay focused and consistently work hard, you will achieve your goals. Despite the challenges and disheartening moments, perseverance and dedication will lead you to success.

Q: Why would you recommend doing an MBA at FIIB?

A: FIIB is committed to holistic student development, ensuring that students are not only academically proficient but also well-rounded individuals ready to tackle the challenges of the modern business world. The institution offers engaging mentoring programs that provide personalized guidance and support, helping students navigate their academic and professional journeys.

Additionally, FIIB places a strong emphasis on personality development sessions, which are designed to enhance students’ soft skills, leadership abilities, and overall confidence. The innovative pedagogical approaches adopted by FIIB ensure that learning is interactive, practical, and aligned with real-world business scenarios. Furthermore, the institution’s focus on emerging trends and industry readiness means that students are always at the forefront of the latest developments in the business world.

RAPID FIRE ROUND –

So! Get ready for a lightning round of questions and get a glimpse into your FIIB favorites in a flash.

Q: What is your current dream or target?

A: My primary goal is to complete my PhD on time without any extensions. I eagerly await the day I will hold my degree.

Q: What is your ideal way to spend a weekend?

A: My ideal way to spend a weekend is to spend a lot of time with my daughter, go to a family dinner, and watch a movie if there’s a new release. If given a chance, I love visiting my parents.

Q: If not teaching, what profession would you choose?

A: If not teaching, I would pursue social service, particularly running a pet care home for dogs, as I have a deep love for them.

Q: What is the funniest excuse a student has given for missing a class?

A: The most common excuse is claiming to be unwell, only to be seen partying on the same day. Technology sometimes reveals these little secrets!

Q: Your favorite spot on the FIIB campus?

A: My cabin is my favorite spot on campus.

Q: Favorite FIIB tradition?

A: The poojas we perform on every Saraswati Pooja and other occasions are my favorite traditions.

Q: If you were a student at FIIB, which faculty members’ classes would you like to attend and why?

A: I would love to attend Kokil Ma’am’s classes because I really enjoy her teaching style, especially in the EFPM classes. I would also like to attend Purnima Ma’am’s finance classes. Even though I don’t have a background in finance, I believe her delivery method would help me grasp the subject effectively.

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

A: I would love to have dinner with Narendra Modi to discuss various topics and gain insights from his experiences.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories in our Faculty Spotlight series!

Q 1. “PGDM is not a course but a mindset”; your reflections on it?

While PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) is technically a course or degree program offered by many business schools, I understand your perspective that it can also be seen as a mindset that extends far beyond the curriculum. It embodies a continuous learning mindset, problem-solving orientation, strategic thinking, leadership and collaboration, entrepreneurial spirit, ethical decision-making, and lifelong networking. Embracing this mindset can contribute to personal and professional success in the dynamic and ever-evolving business world.

This mindset encourages individuals to seek knowledge and growth opportunities throughout their professional lives. PGDM instils a problem-solving attitude in individuals. The program equips students with analytical tools, critical thinking abilities, and a structured approach to tackling complex business challenges. It emphasizes the importance of considering multiple perspectives, assessing risks, and making informed choices that align with the organization’s overall strategy. The program emphasizes leadership skills, such as communication, teamwork, and emotional intelligence, and promotes the ability to inspire and motivate others, build strong teams, and drive collective success. It instills an appetite for entrepreneurship, even within established organizations, by fostering an environment that supports entrepreneurial thinking, problem identification, and opportunity exploration.

Q2. Why is it important to have a unique (X) factor to stand out, and what is yours?

For several reasons, having an X factor is crucial for standing apart from the crowd. Firstly, in a competitive world with numerous individuals with similar qualifications and skill sets, having a distinct X factor sets you apart. It showcases your individuality, strengths, and capabilities, making you more memorable to employers, clients, or other stakeholders.

Secondly, having an X factor brings diversity and fresh perspectives. It allows you to offer a different approach or solution to problems, making you valuable in team settings or in entrepreneurial ventures. Your unique qualities can contribute to innovation, creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking. Moreover, a distinct X factor enhances your brand and professional reputation. It becomes your unique selling proposition, making you more attractive to opportunities and increasing your chances of success.

Ultimately, having an X factor empowers you to carve out your niche and stand out in a crowded marketplace. For me, it’s “Communication & Empathy” that help me understand customer behaviour and what communication can accomplish for them. My X factor and regular learning zeal have helped justify my profession.

Q3. What role does the institute play in matching students’ motivations and expectations?

In addition to being proud to be a part of FIIB, it has evolved and continues to provide excellent support today; mainly, I would like to thank Imran Sir for his consistent support. My faculty continuously guided me on doubts and confusion about the right path for me throughout my time here. Knowing what works in the industry, we were confident of getting a breakthrough. I am very grateful for the FIIB support that landed me an international job.

Q4. What keeps you on track as a student who became a manager and a successful professional?

Learning never ends, so keep learning and keep growing. Opportunities may take a while to present themselves, but you will feel the difference when you can compete with others and understand the situation better. You will be motivated and motivated to grow further as a result. Remember that we are always on time to start.

Q5. What advice do you have for students as they look up to the commencement of their PGDM program at FIIB?

My advice for students anticipating the start of their PGDM program comes from my experience as alumni. PGDM programs can be intense and fast-paced, so being proactive and taking the initiative is crucial. Actively seek out opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to you. Engage in class discussions, join clubs and organizations, network with peers and professors, and assume leadership roles whenever possible.

A strong network of classmates, alumni, and industry professionals is one of the most significant benefits of a PGDM program. Students come from various backgrounds, cultures, and industries. Be bold, embrace the diversity within your cohort and learn from the experiences of your peers. Balancing coursework, projects, internships, and networking can be challenging during a PGDM program. Avoid procrastination by creating a schedule, prioritizing tasks, and setting deadlines. Seek experiential learning opportunities and be mindful of your well-being throughout your journey. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, take breaks, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and engage in activities you enjoy.

Lastly, I advise you to follow the FIIB mantra of NEVER STOP LEARNING. Cultivate a lifelong learning mindset, seek professional development opportunities, and remain curious about emerging trends and technologies in your field. Best of luck!
