Midlife is often viewed as a crossroads—a phase of life where personal and professional transformations take center stage. For Indian women, this period carries unique significance, shaped by cultural expectations, evolving roles, and newfound opportunities. Far from being a time of slowing down, midlife is a chance to redefine, reconnect, and rediscover oneself. It is a stage filled with challenges and opportunities to embrace growth, build resilience, and create a life filled with purpose and empowerment.

Midlife in India: A Unique Context

For Indian women, midlife is often marked by significant personal and societal changes. Children leave for higher studies or careers, parents age, and familial responsibilities shift. Coupled with these dynamics are professional challenges like stagnation, ageism, or the struggle to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Yet, this phase can also be a powerful time for self-reflection and reinvention, allowing women to focus on themselves for perhaps the first time in decades.

The Power of Midlife

Midlife offers a unique blend of experiences and opportunities. With years of wisdom, emotional intelligence, and a clearer understanding of their values, Indian women can leverage this phase to:

Pursue long-delayed aspirations, such as starting a business, traveling, or learning a new skill.

Re-enter the workforce or switch careers with newfound confidence.

Focus on personal well-being, mental health, and building stronger relationships.

Despite societal pressures to conform to traditional roles, many Indian women are now breaking barriers and redefining what midlife means.

Strategies for Thriving in Midlife

1. Prioritizing Mental Well-Being

Mental health is often a taboo subject in India, particularly for women. Midlife, however, is a crucial time to address emotional well-being. The hormonal changes associated with menopause, combined with the stress of managing multiple roles, can take a toll on mental health.

Practice Mindfulness: Techniques like meditation and yoga, rooted in Indian traditions, can help manage stress and anxiety.

Seek Support: Join support groups or consider therapy to navigate challenges like empty nest syndrome or career transitions.

Express Yourself: Journaling or engaging in creative outlets like art or music can help process emotions and foster positivity.

2. Embracing Career Transitions

For many Indian women, midlife is a time to re-evaluate their professional goals. Whether it’s returning to work after a hiatus or pivoting to a new field, this phase can be professionally fulfilling.

Upskill: Invest in courses or certifications that align with current job market trends. Online platforms like Coursera or Udemy make it easier to learn at your pace.

Network: Reconnect with former colleagues, attend industry events, or join professional groups to explore opportunities.

Freelancing or Entrepreneurship: Midlife is an excellent time to start a venture or take up freelance projects, offering flexibility and creative fulfillment.

3. Investing in Health and Wellness

Physical health often takes a backseat in the lives of Indian women, especially as they prioritize their families. Midlife is a chance to reclaim this aspect of life.

Nutrition First: Focus on a balanced diet rich in calcium, iron, and vitamins to combat midlife health issues like osteoporosis or fatigue.

Regular Check-Ups: Ensure timely screenings for conditions like diabetes, heart health, and breast cancer.

Stay Active: Incorporate activities like walking, yoga, or strength training to maintain vitality and reduce stress.

4. Leveraging Technology

Digital tools offer Indian women a plethora of opportunities to enhance their midlife experience.

Health Apps: Use apps like MyFitnessPal or Fittr to track fitness and nutrition goals.

Learning Platforms: Explore courses in areas like finance, art, or technology to upskill or pursue hobbies.

Social Media: Connect with like-minded individuals or communities for inspiration and support.

5. Building a Supportive Network

Midlife is a time to strengthen relationships and build new ones that align with personal growth.

Family: Open conversations with family members about shared responsibilities and personal aspirations.

Friends: Reconnect with old friends or join new groups to foster a sense of belonging.

Community Involvement: Volunteering or mentoring can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Midlife is not an end but a powerful new beginning!

In celebrating midlife, we affirm a universal truth: this phase matters, because it holds the potential for growth, empowerment, and deeper connections with oneself and the world. For Indian women, thriving in midlife often involves challenging societal expectations. It’s about prioritizing self-care, making bold career moves, or simply choosing to live life on their terms. Institutions like FIIB, through platforms like TEDxFIIB Women, are providing spaces to celebrate these transformations, offering women the encouragement and resources to lead with courage and resilience.

In the relentless pursuit of progress, humanity stands at the crossroads of innovation and sustainability. Technology continues to reshape the business landscape, and the imperative to invent, adapt, and thrive has become more pressing. The future of industry hangs in the balance, beckoning leaders to redefine entrepreneurship, technological advancement, and social responsibility.

Against this backdrop, the fifth day of FIIB’s Research Conference convened under the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Technology (CIET), posing a profound question: What does it mean to build a better future through innovation? The quest for answers began with a clarion call to redefine thought leadership, harnessing the transformative power of technology to forge sustainable, inclusive, and visionary solutions that will sustain business and society alike. The era of personalised connections has dawned, and companies that fail to harness its power will be left behind.

A session titled “Investing for a Better Future: Building Innovative, Sustainable, and Inclusive Technologies,” featured thought leaders who came prepared to challenge the audience’s thinking. Professor Sanjit Roy, from Edith Cowan University in Australia, and Ramendra Verma, Partner at Grant Thornton Bharat, painted a picture of the future in broad strokes—yet filled with practical insights.

Professor Roy, whose expertise lies at the intersection of service science and marketing, was quick to hone in on one of the most disruptive forces of our time: artificial intelligence. The way he framed it, AI isn’t just a tool—it’s set to redefine the very heart of customer relationships. “Technology,” he emphasised, “is now woven into the fabric of our daily lives. AI will soon be the engine driving relationship marketing.” His argument was simple: companies that understand the power of AI to analyse vast data sets, tailor messaging, and sense customer sentiment will thrive. Those that don’t will become relics of a bygone era.

Innovation’s potential extends far beyond the corporate world. Government-led initiatives too are a powerful catalyst for innovation. Mr. Ramendra Verma, with his decades of experience working on government-backed initiatives, took the conversation a step further. He highlighted India’s massive strides in technological innovation, citing the biometric-based AADHAAR system as a monumental achievement. But his message was clear—innovation needs to be more than just impressive; it needs to solve real problems. “The lifecycle of products is getting shorter,” he noted, with a sense of urgency. “To stay relevant, businesses must continually disrupt themselves, integrating sustainability and the fight against climate change into their core.”

Amid this intellectual ferment, researchers and innovators gathered to share their proposals and solutions. A panel discussion on how to measure and maximise the impact of technology and innovation ecosystems brought together voices from across the globe.

From Professor Ravinder Rena, Professor of Economics at Durban Institute of Technology, to American media entrepreneur Jeff Frick, the diversely qualified panel underscored the importance of building ecosystems that foster innovation, but also keep it on track, ensuring that it benefits society at large.

The Ideation Bootcamp that followed felt like a fitting extension of these big ideas. Researchers presented their visions for the future—whether it was reimagining the travel industry through the metaverse or using augmented reality to reshape retail. The conversations were speculative but grounded, exploring how emerging technologies could reshape entire industries in real, tangible ways.

And just when attendees thought the day had peaked, it was time for ‘Speed Dating with Editors,’ where researchers had the chance to receive candid, invaluable feedback from editorial experts like Dr. Jacqueline Eastman and Dr. Ajay Manrai. It was a moment of refining and elevating the very research that had dominated the day.

In a world that often feels overwhelmed by the sheer pace of change, FIIB’s Research Conference was a reminder that with the right ideas and a commitment to innovation, the future doesn’t have to be daunting—it can be an opportunity. The fifth day was a microcosm of that belief, showing that business, technology, and innovation are not just interconnected—they are inseparable.

As the world continues to evolve at breakneck speed, one fact persists: those who innovate will shape the future.

In the world of business, decision-making is often likened to an arduous task—one that requires more than intuition and a knack for numbers. Successful choices rely on a complex mix of psychological influences, biases, and sometimes even philosophical reflections. Increasingly, business schools and professionals are recognizing the profound impact of behavioral science on decision-making, urging future leaders to be educated in this nuanced field.

On day 3rd of FRC 2024, Research Grant Competition (RGC) turned the focus to understanding the depths of behavioral science, psychology, and the unseen factors guiding our decisions. Under the banner of “Rethink, Reimagine, Redesign,” we explored how insights from behavioral science explain the complexities of human choice and, ultimately, improve business practices. Hosted by the Center for Behavioral Insights (CBI), the event’s theme set the stage for a deep dive into the science behind human behavior, one that business students today must understand to build more empathetic, effective strategies for the future.

Prof. Kokil Jain, Dean of Research at FIIB, opened the event by tracing the origins of behavioral insights, illustrating how this field synthesizes psychology, economics, and anthropology. behavioral science, she explained, seeks to uncover the reasons behind our actions—why we favour certain options over others and how we can be nudged toward more informed choices. If ancient Greek philosophers like Socrates questioned, “How should one live?”, today’s behavioral scientists might reframe this as “How should one decide?” Much like the Greeks’ pursuit of wisdom, behavioral science guides decision-makers through mental pitfalls and challenges.

According to Huma Khan, Director of Behavioral Research at Fidelity Investments, the path from decision to action is “a labyrinth of choices influenced by unseen psychological barriers.” For instance, a business leader may understand what action is optimal but still hesitate, hindered by biases or fear of negative outcomes. behavioral scientists aim to clarify this process by defining problems in psychological terms, diagnosing barriers, and crafting hypotheses. Testing—through A/B trials, for example—is essential to ensure these solutions are not only theoretically sound but also practical, resilient against biases and variability.

These principles are not only applicable to business decisions but can also create meaningful societal impacts, as Ms. Khan highlighted. behavioral insights can nudge individuals toward sustainable habits, influencing both environmental and social welfare. In her view, it’s not merely about making good business decisions but about fostering habits that can contribute to solving global challenges. This approach extends the traditional business mindset, inviting leaders to consider not only what is profitable but what is sustainable—a Socratic questioning of business’s purpose and responsibility in society.

In addition to individual decision-making, businesses often confront the challenge of forecasting future trends—an art as complex as ancient philosophy. Prof. Russell W. Belk of York University’s Schulich School of Business dove into this concept, noting that, unlike in classical studies where philosophers debated the nature of reality, forecasters debate the forces that will shape our future. “There’s no singular formula to determine what will happen next,” he asserted, as if echoing the uncertainties that Plato explored in his own dialectics. Prof. Belk reminded the audience that while technological trends like AI might be considered a bubble in the West, India’s growing investment in IT challenges that notion, revealing the varied lenses through which different cultures perceive innovation.

Complementing these philosophical discussions, the event featured an Ideation Bootcamp, aimed at harnessing creativity to address pressing real-world challenges. Participants immersed themselves in sessions like “Planet Priorities,” focusing on environmental sustainability, and “Customer Patterns,” exploring gaps in consumer behavior research. Guided by behavioral insights, participants sought solutions that were both visionary and grounded in the scientific understanding of human behavior.

This interplay between data and emotion is about understanding how data and instincts combine to shape human perception and drive business decisions. The panel emphasized the importance of guarding against biases such as the “gap instinct” and “negative instinct,” terms inspired by psychologist Hans Rosling. By recognising and overcoming these biases, business leaders can make decisions that are both informed and empathetic.

Behavioral science is not just another business tool; it’s a bridge between disciplines, uniting philosophy, psychology, and pragmatism. For students and practitioners alike, understanding behavioral science offers a fresh perspective on decision-making—one that values both the power of rationality and the subtle, often irrational nuances of human nature.

As part of FIIB’s commitment to shaping future leaders, the Center for Behavioral Insights (CBI) continues to drive forward-thinking discussions on how behavioral science can transform business practices. To explore more on how behavioral insights are influencing decision-making, visit https://www.fiib.edu.in/centre-for-behavioral-insights.

In today’s world, where inclusivity is essential for building resilient and sustainable workplaces, MANTHAN 5.0—organized by Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB), New Delhi—brought together industry leaders, aspiring managers, and educators to share fresh insights on creating inclusive business environments. Held on October 26, 2024, at the Ishwar Dayal Auditorium, FIIB, the event inspired participants to view inclusivity as a core driver of effective leadership and growth.

Manthan, FIIB’s flagship event, is a vital forum for management students delving into current industry themes and emerging business trends. This year’s theme, “ASAP (All Strategy at Practice): Inspire Inclusion,” highlighted how intentional inclusivity can shape a stronger future for organizations. Through engaging discussions, Manthan 5.0 provided participants with actionable perspectives on integrating inclusive strategies, aiming to prepare future leaders to navigate an evolving business landscape.

Setting the Tone with Thought-Provoking Speeches

The event opened with a keynote by Mr. Varinder Kumar Verma, Head of HR at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., who highlighted the transformative power of inclusion. He shared how Maruti’s inclusive practices have enriched its workplace culture and contributed to its success. The Guest of Honour, Mr. Doman Yadav from Powergrid Corporation of India, provided further insights into the importance of inclusivity in workforce development, setting a strong foundation for the day’s discussions.

Diving Into the Heart of Inclusion with Panel Discussions

Two insightful panel discussions brought diverse perspectives on fostering inclusivity:

Panel 1: Connecting Culture, Values & Strategy
Moderated by Dr. Tavleen Kaur, Associate Professor of HR & OB at FIIB, this panel included thought leaders like Ms. Parichita Kotnala from Lumanity and Mr. Mrityunjay Rohit from Credable. They explored the synergy between culture, values, and strategy in fostering inclusivity, emphasizing the need for values-driven operations.

Panel 2: Empowering the Future – How ‘Inspire Inclusion’ Shapes Inclusive Cultures
Led by Ms. Jayata Sharma from EY, Ms. Himani Bhasin from JLL, and Mr. Harsh Raj Jain from EBIX, this panel focused on creating environments that allow employees to contribute authentically. Moderated by Dr. Runa Maitra from People Talent International, the discussion highlighted the role of technology in empowering diverse teams.

Insights from MANTHAN 5.0: Perspectives That Matter

The event was enriched by powerful thoughts from speakers and participants, each reflecting a unique aspect of inclusivity in the modern workplace:

LGBTQ+ Inclusivity in the Workplace
Varinder Kumar Verma: “Supporting LGBTQ+ inclusivity goes beyond policy. True inclusivity is about creating a culture of respect where everyone feels valued and safe to be themselves.”

Values and Culture as Core Foundations
Doman Yadav: “Culture really does eat strategy for breakfast. A company’s culture, built on values, drives every decision and action. Without a strong culture, even the best strategies fall short.”

DEI’s Role Post-COVID
Jayata Sharma: “Post-pandemic, DEI is non-negotiable. Diverse teams are more resilient and adaptable, essential traits in our ever-changing world.”

Hiring Visually Impaired Talent
Mrityunjay Rohit: “With tools like screen readers, visually impaired employees excel. Inclusivity at this level strengthens our team and adds to a culture where everyone’s abilities are respected and supported.”

Equality vs. Equity
Parichita Kotnala: “Equality provides equal resources, while equity tailors support to individual needs. Equity builds a culture of trust and fairness, crucial for lasting success.”

Embracing Inclusive Leadership for a Better Future

MANTHAN 5.0 reinforced the essential role of inclusive leadership in today’s business world. The actionable insights provided, from policy development to technology-enabled support for diverse teams, reflect FIIB’s commitment to nurturing leaders prepared to make a societal impact.

Moving Forward with Inclusive Practices

Through its discussions, MANTHAN 5.0 emphasized the importance of inclusivity for building resilient organizations that can thrive in a constantly evolving landscape. FIIB’s MANTHAN initiative continues to inspire future leaders, demonstrating that inclusivity isn’t just a trend but a fundamental part of the future of business.

With inspiring speakers, practical workshops, and memorable discussions, MANTHAN 5.0 served as a powerful reminder that an inclusive approach builds not only stronger teams but a better world for all.

A pioneering industry leader, benevolent philanthropist, and compassionate human, Ratan Tata’s success story will inspire the generations to come. Ratan Tata was an Indian businessman and philanthropist who served as the former chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons. Son of Naval Tata, Ratan Naval Tata graduated from Cornell University College of Architecture with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. In 1961, Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group and worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel. Later, he was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons, serving from 1991-2012, after JRD Tata stepped down. Being branded as the wrong choice by the media, Ratan Tata proved everyone wrong with perseverance, dedication, and hard work, placing Tata Group alongside the leading global companies.

Apart from being a business titan, he was also a generous benefactor, involved in many charitable causes. Aiming to provide high-quality education to marginalised children, improve primary healthcare conditions, and transform rural India, Tata Group has collaborated with several NGOs and organisations. By establishing the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Ratan Tata donated approximately 65% of the profits to charitable purposes such as education, rural development, and healthcare. Recipient of Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and several national and international honorary and awards, Ratan Tata is recognised for his contribution towards various sectors of society.

The Unbeatable Power of Hard Work and Preparation

Ratan Tata’s leadership at Tata group was testament of hard work and preparedness. He built his career from the ground up, moving from an apprentice position to the directorial role. During his 21-year tenure, Tata’s revenue increased more than 40 times and the profit more than 50 times. He helmed the Tata Group through several challenges, solidifying its global mark. Under his visionary leadership, the Tata Group made several acquisitions including the purchase of London-based tea brand, Tetley, South-Korean truck manufacturing unit Daewoo motors, the takeover of Corus Group, an Anglo-Dutch steel manufacturer, and the highly talked about purchase of elite British car brands Jaguar and Land Rover.

Staying Grounded: Ratan Tata’s Humble Approach

Source of inspiration for millions, Ratan Tata has taken his company and country forward. A true icon and legend, there is so much we can learn from the man of innovation, humility, and grace. One of the biggest thing Ratan Tata teaches us is humility. A virtue possessed by very few, Ratan Tata was always humble, staying true to his roots. Listening to everyone, respecting their opinions, and admiring their work, Ratan Tata believed that a true leader is always humble and empathetic. Despite being at the helm of one of the largest businesses in India and the world, he always maintained a down-to-earth demeanor, never flaunting his accomplishments.

The Role of Innovation and Resilience in Sustained Success

Tata Group grew manifold under Ratan Tata’s chairmanship, and it is impossible to believe that once he was branded as the wrong choice to lead the massive enterprise. When he was appointed as the Tata Group chairman, many people questioned JRD Tata’s decision. However, maintaining dignified silence and focusing on proving himself, he positioned Tata Group as a distinguished and influential conglomerate in the world. In the ever-evolving business world, where everything is dynamic, Ratan Tata embodied the importance of innovation and resilience. During his reign, Tata Group expanded into several industries such as hospitality, automotive, software, and telecommunication. During his tenure, Tata Group’s innovation and development plans reached groundbreaking heights, with Tigor EV, the first made-in-India EV, FerroHaat, a digital initiative to organise steel scrap sourcing, and Mia, India’s first 100% recycled gold brand, being some of the many remarkable feats. This reminds us that through innovation and resilience, personal growth and the success of any venture is possible.

Impacting the Lives of Millions Through Philanthropy

Apart from being a top-rank conglomerate, Ratan Tata was also recognised for his philanthropic endeavors. He established Tata Trusts, relentlessly working to improve the access of quality education, healthcare, and sustainable development for the underprivileged section of society. He invested his time in truly understanding the needs of society and actively contributing to its growth and betterment. In times of natural disasters, communal crisis and conflicts, Tata Group was at the forefront, providing aid and relief, reflecting his concern and care about people. Ratan Tata’s philanthropy, benevolence and kindness are a remarkable testament that success is more than making a name for yourself, it is about contributing positively towards the lives of those around us.

Incorporating Ratan Tata’s Vision: Building a Legacy

Ratan Tata’s personal and professional journey offers valuable lessons for us to bring positive impact in society through innovative and adaptable approaches. At FIIB, we recognise the legacy built by Ratan Tata and aim to champion his principle values- hard work, integrity, and innovation. As we try to uphold his legacy, we remain dedicated to fostering a holistic learning and entrepreneurial environment, instilling social responsibility, humility, and generosity in our students. As one of pioneering business institutes in India, our fundamental belief is to strike a balance between hands-on education and theoretical knowledge. By integrating technology, promoting interactive and peer learning, encouraging learning by doing, we aim to shape the future of the business world. Ratan Tata’s vision is not just an aspiration, it is a resolution to nurture the future generations of thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and businesspersons who will continue to drive the world toward progress and innovation.

The FIIB Faculty Spotlight series continues to celebrate the dedicated faculty members who shape the learning experiences of our students. This week, we are delighted to introduce Dr. Jaya, a faculty member with a fascinating journey from the field of zoology to finance. Dr. Jaya brings her expertise and passion to the classroom, offering students invaluable knowledge in finance.

Dr. Jaya is renowned for her unwavering commitment to teaching and mentoring students, driven by her deep passion for Finance. With a strong academic background, including a PhD in Behavioral Finance, she brings a wealth of expertise and practical insights to the classroom. Her dedication to integrating real-world applications into her teaching makes her an invaluable asset to the FIIB community.

Here’s what she had to say about her journey and insights on the current financial landscape.

Q: How did you get started in your current field and where did you attend for your Masters before coming to FIIB?

A: Initially, I was a science student, having completed a Zoology honors degree from Delhi University. However, after exploring the limited opportunities in that field, I decided to pursue an MBA. During my MBA, I developed a keen interest in Finance and subsequently secured a placement with Reniger Enterprises Limited. Despite this, my passion for teaching and research remained strong, leading me to pursue a PhD in Behavioral Finance from JP Institute of Information and Technology.

Q: Switching from zoology to finance is quite rare. What challenges did you face during your journey?

A: Yes, switching from a science background to finance wasn’t easy. As a science student, we didn’t have a foundation in accounting or finance, which made the transition a bit challenging. But the analytical skills I developed in science helped me grasp the underlying processes in finance. I was fortunate to have excellent professors during my MBA, which piqued my interest in finance. Over time, I became more comfortable with numbers, and the shift happened naturally.

Q: What motivated you to pursue research in behavioral finance, and how has your academic journey evolved since then?

A: My interest in behavioral finance was driven by my fascination with the psychological aspects of financial decisions. After completing my PhD in 2014, I published several papers in reputed journals and authored a textbook on behavioral finance with Sage. As of September, I will mark 10 years in academia, reflecting on a rewarding journey of teaching, research, and contributions to the field.

Q: What modules do you teach at FIIB, and how do they prepare students for the industry?

A: I teach four core Finance modules: Business Valuation, Portfolio Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Financial Markets. These courses are essential for understanding the intricacies of the financial world. I strive to make my teaching as practical as possible by incorporating real-world case studies, industry examples, and interactive exercises. My goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their future careers.

Q: How do the modules you teach align with the current needs of the finance industry?

A: The modules are highly relevant as they cover essential aspects of finance. Corporate Finance forms the basis for many advanced finance topics, while Business Valuation, Portfolio Management, and Mergers and Acquisitions are critical for understanding investment decisions, firm performance, and strategic growth. This alignment ensures that students are well-prepared for industry demands and can apply their knowledge to practical scenarios.

Q: What advice would you give to students who are unsure about their specialization but are interested in finance?

A: The choice largely depends on the individual’s comfort with the field and their career goals. For those unsure, starting with a general PGDM to build foundational knowledge in finance is advisable. If they find themselves comfortable and interested in finance, they can then pursue a specialized PGDM in Finance. Students with a clear background in finance and a defined career direction may opt directly for the specialized course.

Q: What are the basic requirements for developing financial acumen, especially for students transitioning from a non-finance background?

A: The fundamental requirement is a strong understanding of numbers. Basic mathematical skills are crucial, but it’s also important to comprehend the meaning behind the numbers. For those lacking a finance background, foundational knowledge can be developed through online courses or revisiting basic finance principles. The ability to interpret and understand the implications of numerical data is key for a finance professional.

Q: Why would you recommend pursuing an MBA at FIIB?

A: FIIB offers a comprehensive approach that covers areas often neglected by other institutions. It emphasizes learning and development from the start, including psychometric testing, personalized action plans, and continuous development throughout the program. The institution provides targeted mentoring, rigorous mock interviews, and industry-specific projects, ensuring that students are well-prepared for their careers. This personalized and in-depth approach to education and placement preparation sets FIIB apart from other institutions.

Q: How do you view the integration of AI and machine learning in the education sector, especially in relation to your field?

A: There is definitely a shift from traditional rote learning to a more problem-solving approach, driven by AI interventions. Routine tasks like giving lecture notes and making students do numerical are being replaced with exercises that encourage critical thinking and the applicability of knowledge. AI has freed up time for instructors and students to focus on higher-order thinking and strategic problem-solving, especially in real-life situations in finance.

How do you think the finance industry will evolve over the next 10 years with the advent of AI?

AI is playing a significant role in the stock market and in facilitating higher-order thinking by taking over routine tasks. This shift is enabling people to focus on strategic-level thinking and generate new ideas. AI’s integration is propelling businesses forward, making it easier for entrepreneurs to innovate.

Q: Do you have any plans to upskill yourself in AI?

A: While I am not currently pursuing any AI courses, I am definitely looking forward to attending workshops on AI. My goal is to learn how to integrate AI into my classroom to better equip my students with the necessary skills.

Q: How do you manage work-life balance as a faculty member?

A: Managing work-life balance as a faculty member can be challenging, but FIIB’s supportive environment and policies make it more manageable. The institution understands the importance of flexibility and provides various measures to help faculty members balance their professional and personal responsibilities.

For instance, FIIB offers unplugged weekends and mandatory breaks during winters and summers, allowing faculty to recharge and spend quality time with their families. Effective time management and a clear understanding of priorities are also essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to your younger self and to the younger generation today?

A: If I could advise my younger self, it would be to trust my instincts and pursue my passions. Don’t be afraid to take risks and embrace new challenges. For the younger generation, my advice is to stay curious, keep learning, and develop a growth mindset. The world is constantly changing, and it’s important to adapt and evolve.

RAPID FIRE ROUND –

So! Get ready for a lightning round of questions and get a glimpse into your FIIB favorites in a flash.

Q. What dream or goal are you currently chasing?

A: I am currently chasing my publication goals and working towards specific research targets.

Q. If given a chance, which profession would you choose apart from teaching?

A: I originally pursued a medical career, but teaching has always been my passion, so I can’t imagine being anything but a teacher.

Q. What advice would you give to your younger self?

A: Things will take their due course, so there’s no need to stress about it.

Q. If you could have coffee with anyone, who would it be?

A: I would love to have coffee with Dr. Neelam Gandhi, a professor I admire from Delhi University. She knew how to guide students in the right direction.

Q. What is your favorite spot on campus?

A: The campus entrance, where all the flowers are—it’s a beautiful sight.

Q. What is your favorite FIIB tradition?

A: The monthly birthday parties are my favorite tradition.

Q. If you could attend a lecture from any FIIB faculty member, who would it be and why?

A: Dr. Kokil, because I love the way she projects and expresses her ideas. Her teaching style makes me want to hear more and more.
